SNAPSHOT: Transformed in Ukraine

Holly Jenkins is the administrative assistant at OCI. Enjoy this snapshot at her first trip abroad to one of OCI’s ministries in Ukraine.

With enthusiasm and nerves, I was on my way to Ukraine to visit Our Home Lifestyle Center. This was my first international flight. Saying a prayer and reading a few scriptures over the phone with one of my best friends, I boarded the plane. God never fails us, my seatmate was on her first international flight as well, and she was heading to Israel!

I quickly learned that she too was nervous and apprehensive about flying alone to a foreign land. After discovering we were both Christian, I shared some scriptures with her from my Bible and prayed with her before our plane departed. I knew immediately God had put us together to bring encouragement to each other!

My trip to Ukraine was wonderful. I enjoyed working in the garden at Our Home Lifestyle Center before the main event began, which was their annual camp meeting. For the next 10 days, I learned more of our loving Saviour Jesus Christ and the plan He has for us, in addition to learning more about the light God gave Ellen White regarding self-supporting work.

Each day as I walked to the meetings, I would pass by this large slab of concrete that you see in the first picture. Soon I learned this was the foundation of their former chapel. Too small to accommodate the growing staff, families, students, and visitors, a decision was made to undertake the task of expansion. As you can see much progress has been made.

When I see this transformation I think of what God does for us when we surrender all. The church couldn’t rebuild itself, as we cannot change who we are. Praise the Lord in His Word God promises that He will change us into His image step by step. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
